Plot / Movie Story / Movie Review
Balakrishna, sruti played by Kamal Hassan is an economically poor but multi-talented dancer, adept at Bharatanatyam, Kathakali, Kuchipudi etc. He dreams of participating at an All-India level competition. Madhavi Jayaprada a wealthy woman, notices his talent and helps in getting him an opportunity to perform in the competition. As he is all set to realise his dream, his ageing mother passes away, and he is emotionally devastated as a result and fails to fulfill his dream. Gradually, he becomes attached to Madhavi and on the day he wishes to propose to her, he finds out that she is already married, and is separated from her husband. Later, the husband returns to re-unite with her and this forces Balakrishna to sacrifice his love for her.
The years pass by since, and Balakrishna, who had lost the hope of realising his former dream and ambition as a dancer, had become an inconsolably alcoholic newspaper journalist/critic. Meanwhile, Madhavi loses her husband. She comes to know of Balakrishna and his circumstance when she hears of him and finds out that he is seriously ill as a result of his liquor addiction. She takes care of his medical needs and requests Balakrishna to teach dance to her daughter.
The movie ends with Madhavi's daughter becoming an acclaimed dancer and the demise of Balakrishna.
- The movie is for an approximate duration of 160 min
